Permission denied for 15 August festival in Eruh

Thousands of people arrived in Kurtalan since yesterday to celebrate 3rd Eruh Çýrav Culture and Nature Festival at the 27th anniversary of 15 August 1984 when the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) started armed conflict with an attack in Eruh-Semdinli to say stop the slavery of the Kurdish people, under the leadership of Mahsum Korkmaz (known as "Agit").

When Eruh District Governorship denied permission for the celebration of the Festival, thousands of people coming from the region provinces to Kurtalan protested the decision and launched a march with torches.

While the mass started the march from Sanat Street in accompany with slogans, the march was blocked by the police barricade. Despite the police announcement to the mass to disperse, the march continued until a clash broke out between demonstrators and police who intervened in the mass with armored vehicles to stop the march.

The police throwing intense gas bombs to demonstrators was responded with the torches and stones. The police barricade and vehicles were attacked by the mass. While the mass was dispersed into side streets after some time, police continued throwing gas bombs in side streets.

As well as the celebrations in Kurdistan region, 15 August, the ‘Revival Day’ of the Kurdish people is celebrated today in many places such as Moscow, France, Germany and many other countries where Kurdish people live.
