Peshmerga forces heading for Kobanê in support of the YPG fight against ISIS gangs have arrived in Suruç district of Urfa where they are being kept waiting at the Çukobirlik site on the road leading to the Mürşitpınar border post.
Following the arrival of a group of 85 peshmerga fighters who flew from Erbil to Urfa GAP airport yesterday evening, another group of 65 fighters who were traveling to Kobanê over land, accompanying trucks, guns, and other heavy weapons, have also arrived Suruç towards morning.
The crossing of peshmerga forces into Kobanê had been planned to be realised via Suruç but was later decided to be performed through rural roads for “security reasons” amidst intense security measures by Turkish security forces across the district.
In the meantime, Turkish military and police forces have blockaded all the roads leading to the Kobanê border, also resorting to tear gas to hinder the people on their way to the border.
The peshmerga forces kept waiting in Çukobirlik site are expected to cross into the Kobanê town of West Kurdistan, Rojava, today. The weapons they have brought with them will also be delivered to the town in parts.
A military group affiliated to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) also crossed into Kobanê via the Mürşitpınar border crossing yesterday.
