Piri: It’s not the voting that’s democracy; it’s the counting

EP Turkey Rapporteur said March 31 elections proved that an important pillar of Turkey’s democracy is still alive and kicking.

European Parliament’s (EP) Turkey Rapporteur Kati Piri posted a tweet implying the elections in Turkey.

Kati Piri posted on her Twitter account a quote by Czech-born British playwright Tom Stoppard, “It’s not the voting that’s democracy; it’s the counting.”

Rapporteur Piri had commended the HDP for the strategic vote in another tweet posted on April 1. Piri had posted a photograph of herself and veteran Kurdish politician and Mardin Co-mayor Ahmet Turk with the caption, “Also congrats to #HDP for strategic voting and winning back mayors in cities that were taken from them in 2016. Pîroz be Ahmet Türk in Mardin!”

In another post on April 1, Kati Piri said, “Last night proved that an important pillar of Turkey’s democracy is still alive and kicking. Congrats to voters and election observers! Big Q is whether opposition’s win will be officially acknowledged.”
