Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Executive Council released a written statement on its website on the occasion of the 30th year of the “Great Death Fast” resistance in the Kurdish struggle for freedom.
Six PKK members went on a death fast on 14 July 1982 to fight against the torture on prisoners in the post-coup of 12 September of 1980.
The PKK statement underlined that pouring into streets on 14 July of this year and at the first anniversary of declaration of Democratic Autonomous Kurdistan would be the best answer to the AKP government which –it said- practiced fascism as much and bad as the fascism of the coup period in 1980’s.
Referring to the situation created in the Kurdish region and prisons in 1980’s, the statement said that; “PKK member and sympathizer prisoners in Diyarbakýr prison were subjected to continuous inhuman treatments and practices which were systematically developed to make Kurds deny their human, national and political identities and to make them Turkish. However, our comrades chose another way; to protect their identity and values and resist at the cost of their lives.”
PKK ended the statement calling on all Kurdistan people and friends to join the Amed Meeting on 14 July in order to ensure freedom for Kurdish people’s leader Öcalan and to build the dignified and free life that Kurdish people want.
