In a statement on the recent developments in Kurdistan, Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Presidency reacted against the detention of mayors of Van province and its districts and the ongoing severe isolation imposed on Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan for the last eleven months.
“It is not possible for the PKK movement and Kurdistan struggle for freedom to remain silent in the face of the fascist policy and the war waged by the AKP state against the people of Kurdistan”, underlined the KCK statement and added that;
“In line with the unlawful attack against the people of Kurdistan and the isolation of Öcalan, the exploitative Turkish state has turned Kurdistan into a war zone by carrying out operations targeting guerrilla units as well as all patriotic Kurdish institutions and political structures. With the arrest of elected Kurdish politicians and representatives on lame excuses, the AKP government intends to destroy the Kurdish politics and its political will. It is obvious that the implementations of the exploitative state aim to intimidate and destroy the Kurdish people and to blacken their free future by means of the war and political slaughter operations it conducts against the Kurdish politics and guerrillas. The war against the Kurdish people has gone into more depth with the policy of cruelty applied in Kurdistan by means of the special army, special operation police and special courts of the Turkish state.”
Referring to the detention of 19 Kurdish politicians in Van on 7 June, KCK Executive Council Presidency underlined that the AKP government laid the groundwork for the coming local elections by targeting and arresting Kurdish politicians and elected representatives within the scope of the political slaughter policy it has developed against the political will of the Kurdish society.
