Riot police have attacked protestors in Gezi Park and on Istiklal Avenue following the closure of the park to public three hours after it was opened by Istanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu.

Police are using intense tear gas and pressure water against demonstrators who protested the closure of the park, chanting the slogan "Gezi belongs to people".

Detentions reported.

On Sunday, Taksim Solidarity Platform called for a forum at the Gezi Park for today, at 7 p.m. The park was however closed to public soon after the governor left the area after the opening. Police intervention on demonstrators in the park area came after the governor's leave.
