Police attacked funeral of guerrilla in Mersin - UPDATE

Police attacked the funeral ceremony of HPG (People’s Defense Forces) guerrilla Þükrü Sezer (Keskin Suruç) who had lost his life in clashes in Malazgirt/Muþ on 27 July. Identity cards of many people were seized by police.

Some 80 people have been taken into custody, mainly young people chanting slogans.

HPG guerrilla Sezer’s body, held in Malatya Forensic Medicine Institute since 27 June, was delivered to his family on Friday.

Sezer’s funeral ceremony in Güneykent Cemetery in Mersin was joined by thousands of people who were severely attacked by police with armed vehicles after the ceremony. Police blockade and tension continue in the cemetery area.
