A police officer has died and another has been seriously wounded when their vehicle was attacked Maraþ late Tuesday.

Police officer Yavuz Bayal died at Pazarcýk State Hospital, where he was immediately taken after the incident. The second policemen who sustained a serious head injury, was transferred to Maraþ State Hospital after receiving initial treatment at Pazarcýk State Hospital.

Pazarcýk District Governor Mustafa Sarýkaya told reporters that the two policemen, who were patrolling Gölbaþý Highway, came under attack around 9:10 p.m. He said security forces have launched a large-scale security operation in the region.
