Police take HDP Akdeniz council members into custody before important meeting

HDP council members were detained before the extraordinary meeting to discuss the borrowing power of Akdeniz Municipality.

Before the extraordinary meeting in Mersin Akdeniz Municipality where the borrowing power will be discussed, the members of the parliament of the Peoples' Democratic Party were taken into custody by police.

It was learned that the police operation was carried out by the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor acting on a charge of "membership of a terrorist organization" and "making propaganda for a terrorist organization".

During the raid, 31 people were taken into custody, including Bedriye Kuş, a member of the Akdeniz Municipality council and HDP Provincial co-chair.

20 people, including the co-chair Kuş, Akdeniz Municipality Council members Nuran Arslan, Mehmet Bitkin and Ali Tanrıverdi were taken to the Provincial Security Directorate.

It is stunning that the members of the municipal council were taken into custody right before today's extraordinary meeting, where the borrowing power of Akdeniz Municipality will be discussed. It was learned that the request by the AKP administration for borrowing authorization was brought to the agenda before, but was rejected by HDP parliament members.
