HDP Tekirdağ branch and HDP candidates in Tekirdağ have launched a one-day political strike against attacks which they have suffered since the start of the election campaign in the province.

Members of the HDP in Tekirdağ, accompanied by the HDP candidates Erdal Avcı and Sevgi Eren, held a one-day strike yesterday in the Corlu Square of the city, opening a banner which read: “Our election campaign is being impeded, we are on a one-day strike”.

HDP members said their offices and the members of the party have been attacked many times by AKP members or some provocateurs of the AKP since the start of election campaigning and that the governorate of the city as well as the security forces have preferred not to intervene.

The statement of the HDP branch in Tekirdağ recalled that the election office of the party in the Saray district was attacked twice, that the rally of the HDP in Suleymanpaşa was banned by the governorate several hours before it started, while the HDP members have frequently been detained in Muratlı and 3 vehicles of the party were damaged at different times. The statement stressed that the HDP executives in the city held meetings with the representatives of the other parties to prevent these attacks, however none of the parties called for caution in election campaigning in the province. The statement added that the Tekirdag governorate has not taken any measures to ensure the safety of the HDP election campaigning and its members.

The sit-down action of the HDP members at Corlu square continued until 22:00 in the evening.
