Prison administration ban on political books

Bakýrköy L Type Prison’s ban on books manifests the fact that the mindset of 12 September coup is still alive, although it is claimed to have been taken to court in the recent term.

Following the prohibition on French author Ilya Ehrenburg’s book “The Fall of Paris” in various prisons on the grounds of being one of the banned books, the author’s roman “The Ninth Wave” was also not delivered to prisoners on the grounds of being ‘inconvenient’.

Liberation of the Turkish People (DHKP-C) prisoners Aysun Akdað and Elif Sultan Kalsen were denied permission to get Ilya Ehrenburg’s book “The Ninth Wave”, J.Stalin’s “Strategy and Tactics”, V.I. Lenin’s “on Youth” and Mao Zendung’s “Basic Tactics” which were found ‘inconvenient’ by the prison administration.

DHKP-C case prisoner Aysun Akdað remarked that the prison administration arbitrarily refused to give the mentioned books to them despite numerous applications they made to claim the books sent to them. Noting that even the period of 12 September coup didn’t witness this kind of a ban on books, Akdað evaluated this prohibition as the manifestation of the lack of thought in the mindset which deceives the people claiming ‘there is no torture or ban’ in the country. Akdað called on authorities to try the 12 September coup ‘in its essence’ and added; “They cannot make people believe this prohibitive mindset is taking the 1980 coup to court while putting a ban on worldwide read books.”
