Prison sentence for Kurdish artist Ferhat Tunç

Artist Ferhat Tunç has been sentenced to 1 year, 11 months and 12 days in prison.

Kurdish artist Ferhat Tunç is on trial on charges of ‘propaganda for an organization’. Tunç is tried for commending on his Twitter account all those men and women who fought against DAESH mercenaries in Kobanê, as well as Aziz Güler, who lost his life in this struggle.

Tunç also has been charged for condemning the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and for celebrating the Rojava Democratic Autonomous Administration's presence in the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

Up to 9 year prison sentence was sought for Tunç who has appeared at Çağlayan 36th Heavy Penal Court on Tuesday.

In a detailed statement of political defense, Tunç rejected the accusations and said he stood by his words. He was then sentenced to 1 year, 11 months and 12 days in prison.
