Prisoners’ families stopped by police in front of Gebze prison

The sit-in families of prisoners on hunger strike were to hold in front of the Gebze Closed Women’s Prison was stopped by the police.

The vigil prisoners’ families launched in front of the Gebze Closed Women’s Prison to end the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan continues on day 30.

Families gathered in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Gebze offices and headed to the prison. The police cut off the families’ vehicles shortly after and surrounded them. One police officer said, “What are you doing here? Apo had a meeting, what else do you want?”

When the families weren’t let through, the mothers said: “We will be here every day standing by our children. You are not strong enough for mothers.”

The police issued fines for the vehicles and forced the families to leave the area. They also confiscated footage from the journalists.
