Protest against Turkish threats in Sydney

“We should not leave those who sacrificed 11,000 lives for us to face massacres."

Kurds and their friends held a demonstration at the Town Hall Square in protest at the Turkish state’s threats and preparations to invade North and East Syria.

The demonstration was also joined by Greens Party MP Jamie Parker criticized the US President Donald Trump’s decision for withdrawal from northern Syria, thus giving green light to Turkish invasion.

Parker said “Trump’s decision has disappointed all of us” adding that it serves Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He noted that it was known to everyone what Turkey has done in Afrin.

Calling on everyone to show solidarity with the Kurdish people, Parker said; “We should not leave those who sacrificed 11,000 lives for us to face massacres."

A statement made on behalf of the Greens Party promised solidarity with the Kurdish people more than ever.

Following speeches were made by Susan Price of the Socialist Alliance, Green Left Weekly paper editör Peter Boyle, Refugees Committee Spokesperson Lan Rintol who all expressed their solidarity with the Kurdish people.

Burusk Aiveri and Temur Xerzan from the Organising Committee also called for support for Rojava.
