Protest for right to put up Democratic Solution Tent continue

The protest against the governor's decision not to grant permission for the Democratic Solution Tent in Diyarbakir to be put up once again, continued trough the night despite the bad weather.

The protest started yesterday with a sit in in front of the Guesthouse (Konukevi) building. The sit in was organised by DÖKH, DYG, KURDÎ-DER, TUHAD-DER, ÝHD and MEYA-DER and saw the participation of independent candidate for Diyarbakir Leyla Zana and Nursel Aydoðan. Hundreds of people joined the protest and stayed the all night in front of the building.

On Monday BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Co-Chair Hamit Geylani had responded to Erdogan’s statement about ‘Civil Friday’, saying; “He has reached the point of denying our prayers, which shows the end point he has come in this deadlock”. Geylani was referring to the harsh words used by the Prime Minister in a series of rallies at the weekend. Erdogan had said: “Now they are saying, ‘Don’t pray behind a state imam.’ There are people praying here, and then those who listen to the terrorist organization [PKK] go to pray somewhere else. This is separatism. We have nothing to do with those who declare Apo a prophet. We will stand together against those who try to deceive my Kurdish brothers.”

The Democratic Solution Tents are part of the ongoing civil disobedience campaign launched by the BDP and the DTK (Democratic Society Congress) to bring to the political agenda four demands the Kurdish people want answered: stop military and political operations, education in the mother tongue and providing constitutional guarantees for the use of the mother language in the public sphere, removing the 10 percent electoral threshold, release all political prisoners.
