Protest music artist Ferhat Tunç to be tried tomorrow

The trial of People’s Democratic Congress (HDK) Executive Council member artist Ferhat Tunç will be held at Malatya 3rd High Criminal Court tomorrow. Artist Tunç is accused of “making propaganda for MKP (Maoist Communist Party) organization” in a speech he made in Dersim on 1 May 2011.

Protest music artist Tunç, currently tried without arrest, demanded the evaluation of his statements within the scope of freedom of expression and remarked that he will not give up dealing with social problems. “Artists do not have to speak the language of dominant powers. The identity of artists should be questioned if they appeal to the government”, said Tunç in his defense in the first trial of the case.

Tomorrow’s trial in Malatya will be attended by Tunç himself as well as his lawyers Ercan Kanar and Barýþ Yýldýrým.
