Ragýp Zarakolu and other fifteen people who have been held under arrest within the scope of so-called "KCK" operation were released this afternoon.
The releases which came following intense protest demonstrations against the KCK case were reportedly decided in consideration of the process of detention, changing probability of classification of offence and the state of evidences.
The releases came following the approval of "KCK Istanbul" indictment which accuses academics Ragýp Zarakolu and Professor Büþra Ersanlý as well as over hundred politicians (most of them Kurds) of leading and aiding a terrorist organization.
With more than 50 others, Zarakolu was on 28 October 2011 taken into custody and arrested in early December. The prosecutor within the context of the so-called "KCK" case asks up to 15 years imprisonment for Zarakolu and 22,5 years for Ersanlý.
The first trial of the case will be held in Silivri on 2 July.
