PYD delegation holding meetings at PACE

The attacks of ISIS gangs on the Kobanê canton of Rojava (West Kurdistan) is on the agenda of the Council of Europe. The PYD delegation, including its co-chair Salih Muslim, will be holding meetings at the Council of Europe for the whole week. Following the attacks of ISIS on Iraq and South Kurdistan, the Council of Europe has changed the title of the discussion from “The attacks of ISIS against the Christians” to “Attacks on humanity: The attacks of ISIS in Syria and Iraq”.

This week’s session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will be marked by discussions on the attacks of ISIS on the Kobanê canton of Rojava. Including the attacks of ISIS on Iraq and South Kurdistan in its agenda, PACE changed the title of the discussion panel into “Attacks on humanity: The attacks of ISIS in Syria and Iraq”.

The PYD delegation, including the co-chair of the party, will have meetings throughout the week at the parliament. The discussion of PACE on the issue will take place in a session on Thursday morning. The deputies have started to put down on paper a resolution draft.

The PYD delegation and Kurdish organisations are also working on a draft resolution by holding meetings at the parliament on what has to be done in order for the situation in Kobanê to not be repeated and the massacres not to be faced again. Holding meetings with political groups, commission chairs, delegations of different countries and the parliamentarians interested in the Middle East, the delegation is making efforts for the insertion of some articles into the resolution draft about the measures to be taken around the problem.

PACE President Anne Brasseur is also among those with whom the delegation will have a meeting.

Speaking to ANF about the meetings being held and to be held, PYD co-Chair Salih Müslim said the meetings will continue throughout the week, adding that their aim is to share the voice of Kobanê. “The Council of Europe should not only condemn the attacks of ISIS, but also should take action on how to stop these attacks. It is also important that it calls on the other international institutions to take action”, said Müslim.

Müslim said they will also say at the meetings that the Council of Europe should give up its abstaining position and undertake a leading role in the lifting of the embargo on Rojava, and the recognition of Rojava as an autonomous region by admitting the reality in the current situation.

Stressing that they drew attention to the importance of monitoring the region regularly rather than from time to time, Müslim added “We say that the Kurds must be taken into consideration as having their own identity in all the decisions and the political steps to be taken”.

The PYD delegation and the MPs from the Left Group visited the people holding a sit-down action and hunger strike in front of the PACE building following the meetings.
