PYD members take over the hunger strike for Afrin in Geneva

65 activists from Democratic Union Party’s (PYD) European branch took over the hunger strike action for Afrin in front of the United Nations office in Geneva, Switzerland.

The hunger strike action to demand UN intervention for Afrin was launched on March 19 by Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs and politicians. On the 11th day, activists from PYD took over the action.

One of the activists, HDP’s Sirnak MP Faysal Sariyildiz said that UN officials who they met with during this 11-day period, acknowledge that Turkey’s actions in Afrin are war crimes but they do nothing other than reporting the developments to the Security Council.

Sariyildiz criticized UN for moving away from its reason of existence and said, “We expressed our demands openly in this 11-day period. We announced how Turkish army and its gangs committed barbaric war crimes in Afrin to the public opinion. Although our action failed to prompt UN, this 11-day resistance unfolded the fact that UN and international powers became accomplices to the war crimes in Afrin by remaining silent. We hand over this action to our new comrades. Everybody should know that we will resist in every field and we will liberate Afrin”.

Speaking at the event, German-Kurdish football player Deniz Naki vowed to continue the struggle until invaders leave Afrin and called everyone to take action to liberate Kurdistan.

Speaking on behalf of the PYD activists who took over the hunger strike action, Zozan Derik said that Afrin was invaded as a result of an international plot and they will continue to raise the struggle until this plot is foiled.
