Agriculture was one of the main sources of sustainment in the region of Raqqa.
Agriculture, one of the main source of sustainment and economy for the people of Raqqa was long neglected because of the war waged by the mercenaries of DAESH (ISIS).
Beside the problems linked to the heavy destruction suffered by the water pipes and water pumping stations during the invasion of DAESH, the agriculture production has come to a standstill also as a result of the invading Turkish state’s policy of ‘closing’ the taps and so interrupting the water flow of the river Euphrates.
Despite all these problems however, Raqqa Civil Council's Agriculture Committee - established immediately after the liberation of Raqqa - has begun to work to revitalize the agricultural activities in the region.
The Agriculture Committee is looking after the reparation of the water channels and pumping stations in the region, and provide support to farmers.
Agricultural Committee Member Isa El-Hemadin said that they are making use of all facilities and means to secure a return to the old and prolific days of agriculture in the region.
El-Hemadin said that farmers have begun to purchase all the agricultural equipment they needed and that they also bought farmers' agricultural products.
El-Hemadin said that, besides agriculture, they are also impulsing activities aimed at developing animal husbandry in the region.
