Roboski families: Respect our pain, we want justice

Families of Roboski victims called out to the Prime Minister and his government this time in Istanbul; “We want justice but conscience in the first place. Be silent now and respect our pain.”

Coming to Istanbul on the invitation by Islamist organizations, Roboski families held a press conference on Friday at the 173rd day of the massacre.

Families, carrying the photographs of their children they lost in the massacre, demanded justice from Prime Minister Erdoðan.

Speaking on behalf of Roboski families, Veli Encü pointed out that villagers have been taken to court instead of those who made the massacre. “We are under political pressures as many villagers have been subjected to administrative fine, except for those who have been jailed for five months and 18 people for whom search warrant has been issued. The government is arresting us instead of pursuing the perpetrators of the massacre who killed 34 innocent people.”

Veli Encü remarked that the statements of the government injured their trust in justice and underlined; “Respect our pain, it is only justice we want.”

Speaking after, Erkan Encü’s mother Felek Encü said that “The Prime Minister says that he asks justice for the children in Syria and Gaza. However, why has he never made a mention of justice for our children?”

Yüksel Ürek's mother Emine Ürek demanded punishment of perpetrators and underlined that; “Our children didn’t deserve death. We want justice to make the bloodshed end and to not to make mothers cry.”

Another mother Semire Encü, who lost her son Selam in the massacre, told what she lived that day; “When I went to the scene, I learned that my boy’s body was also there but I couldn’t find it for a long time. I couldn’t recognize the parts of my son’s body and it was only fourteen hours later that I could hug the pieces of his body. I demand justice from the Prime Minister as a mother and I don’t want other people to live what I suffered from.”

Vedat Encü’s mother Mercan Encü also addressed the Prime Minister and said that; “You would in the same way go smuggling if you were in our shoes and lived under the conditions we have been living in. It is only peace and justice that we ask for.” Mother Encü also called on mothers of Turkish soldiers to demand peace.

Hamza Encü's mother Kadriye Encü added that “We went everywhere to ask for justice but we returned empty-handed from all of them. It is enough now.”

Hosting organizations AKABE, AKDAV, AKV, Anadolu Platformu, Fatih Akýncýlarý, Hikmet Vakfý and Mazlum-Der also criticized judicial authorities for not concluding the confidential investigation into the massacre and not bringing those responsible to book.
