Defense lawyers of the ROJ TV case have demanded the dismissal of the case on the grounds of an outrageous letter of thanks, sent by the case prosecutors to Turkish authorities.
The trial at Copenhagen City Court started with a crisis. The prosecutor's argument on the basis of the indictment that PKK is a 'terrorist organization' was met with the opposition of Roj TV’s lawyer. The judge left the courtroom.
It has come out that the case prosecutors, who many times visited Turkey in concern with the ROJ TV investigation and met with a delegation elected by Turkish state authorities, sent a letter of thanks to Turkish authorities to express their appreciation.
Roj TV lawyer Biorn Elmquist, who has revealed the scandal, demanded the abatement of action which has opened the court’s legitimacy up for discussion. Discussing Elmquist’s demand during a short break in the hearing, the court board rejected the demand.
In the presentation made during the hearing, Roj TV's lawyers noted that the case can’t be counted as a case of "terrorism" as it is within the scope of freedom of thought and expression. Lawyers called attention to the Turkey-sourced evidences presented by the prosecutors and once more demanded the dismissal of the case. While the court board took another break for half an hour to discuss, the lawyers’ demand was once more rejected by the board and started reading the bill of indictment.
