Sit-in were held in Istanbul, Diyarbakýr, Batman and Cizre (Þýrnak)on Saturday by Saturday Mothers demanding justice for the disappeared.
In Cizre, the sit-in was dedicated to Ýskan Aslan who was taken into custody from his home in 1994. Aslan’s widow Þuke Aslan said that her husband was killed by Kamil Atak, Cemal Temizöz and his team. “I went to Kamil Atak’s house after my husband was taken away. But Atak threatened me with death too. Later, he told me he would release my husband if we voted for him. But he did not release but kill him.”
The 371st sit-in was held in Istanbul where Hüsamettin Yaman and Mehmet Soner Gül were commemorated. Hüsamettin Yaman’s brother Feyyaz Yaman said, “These people did not disappear. They were murdered by the snipers of the state.” Both Yaman and Gül were forcibly disappeared when they were 22 years old. Speaking on behalf of the Saturday Mothers, Selin Altunkaynak has noted, “Special Forces officer and sniper Ayhan Çarkýn confessed that Hüsamettin and Soner were shot in the head and buried in Çerkezköy. Nine officers were taken into custody after Çarkýn’s confession but they were finally released and justice was not done.”
In Diyarbakýr and Batman Recep Diker and pro-Kurdish daily Özgür Gündem distributor Ýsmail Aðaye were commemorated, both of whom disappeared in 1994. Diker’s and Aðaye’s families have said that they want to have their sons’ bones at least and that the government will be committing the same crime until the bones are found.
