Second vote today to elect Sanchez as Spanish Prime Minister

As expected the Spanish parliament will vote today for the second time to elect the new Prime Minister. Sanchez lost the first vote but should win today's.

As it was expected Spanish Socialist Worker's Party (PSOE) leader and acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez failed to be elected in the first vote in Parliament.

Today the vote should give him a simple majority and Sanchez should be declared Prime Minister.

In the first vote, Sanchez needed to win 176 seats, i.e. the overall majority in Spain's 350-seat lower chamber of parliament (the Congress of Deputies). However he secured 166 votes in favor, 165 against and 18 abstentions.

The PSOE needs the Catalans and the Basques to abstain to secure Sanchez’s confirmation in office.
