Erem Kansoy from Medya News TV interviewed Dr. Vicki Sentas, associate professor at Sydney Law University. Sentas criticized the European Union countries for protecting Turkey by not taking action against the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Sentas said: "Öcalan's conditions of captivity are contrary to Turkish law, international law and all universal human rights agreements. Öcalan has not been allowed to meet with his family, lawyers or anyone else for the last 3 years. We also need to emphasize the silence of the European Union and its important organs against the inhumane treatment of Öcalan. By not taking action on this issue, Europe is actually creating a protection area for Turkey and its practices against Öcalan,"
Sentas said that Turkey is avoiding any peace negotiations and added that "ensuring Abdullah Öcalan's freedom and developing a consistent dialogue with him is the only way to a political solution."
Sentas added: "The continuation of the inhumane practices and isolation of Öcalan in this way also reveals Europe's double standards. These practices also showed us that international laws are ignored when it comes to the Kurds and Öcalan. Europe, the CPT, political bodies, the European Parliament and the EU's judicial bodies must immediately take action to ensure that Öcalan sees his human rights reinstated and respected."
