Political figures continue to express reaction against the Turkish offensive in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) which was launched on April 17 in violation of international law.
In a statement marking the Ramadan Feast, Shiite leader Ammar Al-Hakim raised concern over the invasion attacks of Turkey. He stated that he once again condemned “the attacks that violate the sovereign rights of Iraq.”
Shiite leader Qays El Xezeli said that press releases do not suffice to halt the Turkish incursion and called on political groups to adopt a common stance and take action against the occupation.
“The Turkish army’s aerial and ground attacks on Iraqi lands have escalated. The Turkish state has full-scale military activity on Iraqi soil. This mobility and activities cannot be halted by issuing statements. It is a shame to believe that attacks can be stopped through press statements. Political forces must reach a common agreement against the Turkish invasion of Iraqi lands," Qeys El Xezeli said.
