Sinn Fein EMP: British government hiding Brexit full damage

The British government is trying to hide, suppress and cover up the full horror of its Brexit plans

Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said the British government is trying to hide the full extent of how damaging Brexit will be to the north of Ireland in an attempt to fool the public.

Martina Anderson said:

"The British government is set to publish 84 papers on how individual sectors will deal with a no-deal Brexit scenario.

"It has now emerged that the Tories have been actively trying to cover up the full extent of how damaging Brexit will be for the north by trying to cajole the Irish government into agreeing to avoid publishing reports on the impact of Brexit.

"In particular, the British government's business secretary has been involved in meetings with officials to try to hide a report, described by one official as 'incendiary', on an emergency agreement on electricity supplies to the north post-Brexit.

"The fact that the British government is trying to hide, suppress and cover up the full horror of its Brexit plans shows how little faith it has in a policy it is trying to impose on the rest of us against our will.

"This is familiar territory for the British government when it is faced with an uncomfortable truth. It has done the same with reports into collusion with loyalist death squads and the withholding of information on the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

"Not only is the British government attempting to hide the awful truth about Brexit from the public here but it is also clearly trying to spare the blushes of the DUP which is blindly supporting its disastrous Brexit policy despite being aware of the hugely damaging impact it will have on people here.

"The public is entitled to this information and the Irish government must ensure that it is not a party to any British government cover up on Brexit."
