Soldiers attacked civilians at Roboski border

Tensions rose in the village of Roboski as Turkish troops, who have been active in the region for the past two months, were preparing for an operation against the positions of HPG guerrillas in Federal Kurdistan Region.

Tensions rose in the village of Roboski in Şırnak's Uludere district as Turkish troops, who have been active in the region for the past two months, were preparing for an operation against the positions of HPG (People's Defense Forces) guerrillas in Federal Kurdistan Region.

The barricades laid by local people to hinder soldiers from moving further towards guerrilla areas were removed yesterday as a result of efforts by DBP (Party of Democratic Regions, formerly BDP) and HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) executives. Tension rose once again as soldiers attacked the people with tear gas as they passed through the village in dozens of armored vehicles.

As the local people responded to the attack by throwing stones at armored vehicles, barricades were laid on the ways leading to the village, and at the border line used by troops in preparation of an operation.

Tension in the village lasted till the night.
