Solidarity event with Rojava in Calenzano

Manfredi Sauro from ARCI organisation urged the Italian government to stop all military and commercial agreements with the Turkish state.

A solidarity conference with the people of Rojava was held in Calenzano, in Tuscany, Italy.

The conference was promoted by Calenzano Municipality. Mayor Ricardo Presta spoke at the conference and said: "We condemn Turkey war against the people of Rojava.”

The mayor reiterated that they will continue to work together with the peoples of Rojava to ensure the end of this war as soon as possible and urged the Turkish state to “stop its unlawful attacks”.

Manfredi Sauro, from ARCI organisation, said that the attacks against the people of Rojava meant "war against socialists".

Sauro said that the democratic system and democratic confederalism model established in Rojava is also a “liberation model” for the European people. “We should protect this system and not leave it at the mercy of dictator Erdoğan and jihadist mercenaries.”

Sauro also urged the Italian government to stop all military and commercial agreements with the Turkish state.

Erol Aydemir, who attended the conference on behalf of the Kurdish committee, said: "All the nation states involved in this immoral war targeting Rojava should know that the peoples of Rojava will continue their struggles on the basis of democratic confederalism."

Heyva Sor-Italy chair, Alican Yıldız, noted that the Turkish state has bombed the hospital, school and all civilian infrastructures, and that more than 400 thousand people were forcibly displaced.

Yıldız, criticised the Western governments for not preventing the Turkish occupation and brutality in Rojava, and called for bigger solidarity with Rojava.

The conference organizers and speakers also announced that they will join the march at Piazza Rebublica in Rome on 15 February, to mark the 21st anniversary of the international conspiracy against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
