In Bern the solidarity hunger strike is carried out at Kurdish Democratic Society Centre where a large number of people visited the hunger strikers.

‘We will resist’

Hunger strike activists, including Kurdish women aged 60 and over, are demanding that Europe and the CPT take action. The activists pointed out that the isolation imposed on Öcalan is actually imposed on the Kurdish people as a whole.

Emphasising that the Kurdish people will never stop demanding Öcalan's freedom, the activists gave the message that they will continue to struggle until isolation is lifted.

Europe's policy is actually strengthening and supporting the Turkish state policies of war, said the activists who added that the Council of Europe and Europe in general, should take a clear stance with respect to Turkish policies.

The President of the Human Rights Association (IHD), Öztürk Türkdoğan, who joined a panel in Switzerland, visited the protesters in the evening and offered his support.

Indicating that the isolation imposed on Öcalan is not limited to only one individual, Türkdoğan said that it was imposed on Öcalan deliberately and as part of a specific policy.

Remarking that “imposing isolation on Öcalan, who is of great importance in the resolution of the Kurdish question in Turkey, Türkdoğan said peace in the Middle East passes through Turkey.

Activists also received the visit of the Swiss Green Party MP Sibel Arslan and SYKP founding member Tuncay Yilmaz.
