In 2015, Kristin L. joined ISIS in Syria by traveling through Turkey. She married an ISIS fighter and raised her child with ISIS ideology She attended ideological classes and tried to recruit women from Germany.
After surrendering to the Syrian Democratic Forces, she was detained in a camp. There, she motivated a women to punish other women who didn't live according to ISIS ideology.
In October 2022, she was brought to Germany.
This week, a German court gave her a suspended sentence of 1 year and 10 months.
Commenting on the sentence, the YPJ Information office said: "Western media often depicts foreign ISIS women as naive. However, they were crucial in the system ISIS created to terrorize our people. As the Autonomous Administration is about to put foreign ISIS members on trial, we remind the international community about the crimes the foreign ISIS members were involved in."
