Suspicious soldier death in Van

A young Kurdish men doing his mandatory military service in Van was found dead by the security gate he was on guard duty at.

Vasip Tasdemir, a young Kurdish man from Sason, Batman who has been doing his mandatory military service in the Van Turkish Army Corps Command for a month, was put on dishwashing duty in his squadron. Tasdemir was constantly on dishwashing duty and then started to be given night time guard duties. Tasdemir was on duty at the First Security Gate last night when he said he was going for a drink of water and entered the surveillence room. A gunshot was heard from the room a while later, and witnesses discovered Tasdemir’s dead body when they entered the room. Van Army Corps Command alleged that Vasip Tasdemir committed suicide with a rifle.

Suspicious deaths in the Turkish army have been occurring frequently, among young Kurdish soldiers in particular.

Another young Kurdish man who was shot in his back had been recorded as a suicide in the past.
