Swiss "Freedom for Öcalan" committee condemns Turkish-Iraqi attack on South Kurdistan

The Swiss "Freedom for Öcalan" committee issued a statement to condemn the Turkish-Iraqi attack on South Kurdistan.

The Swiss "Freedom for Öcalan" committee strongly condemned the “brutal Turkish attack, in collaboration with the Iraqi army and the Iraqi Kurdish forces of Barzani, against the democratic autonomous administration of Shengal.”

The statement added: “Abdullah Öcalan's vision of a democratic confederalism with the prospect of peace and equal participation, gender equality, different ethnic groups and religious communities represents a deadly threat not only to the Erdogan regime, but to all autocratic regimes, not only of the region.”

The statement continued: “Under the hypocritical cover of a peacemaker in the Russian-Ukrainian war, Erdogan opens a bloody new chapter in the decade-long struggle against the PKK as well as the Yazidi. The "new Sultan" launches his powerful army - NATO's second largest - and his Islamist mercenaries against the people of Sengal, northern Zab and Rojava, even employing chemical weapons. In this context, our demand for the immediate release of Abdullah Öcalan now becomes even more important and urgent. Only in this way will it be possible to find a peaceful solution to the "Kurdish question" and the problems connected with it.”
