Syriac Swiss citizen Cosar on trial for fighting ISIS

Syriac Swiss citizen Johan Cosar’s trial for fighting against ISIS has started.

Syriac Swiss citizen Johan Cosar is on trial for fighting against ISIS in Rojava. In a previous press statement, Cosar had said he was proud to have fought an inhuman force as a member of the Syriac Military Council (MFS).

Johan Cosar had fought with the Syriac Military Council to defend the people from ISIS attacks in Syria where he had travelled to in search of his lost father. Johan Cosar fought against ISIS from 2012 to 2015, then returned to his country, Switzerland, where he was detained and sued. Cosar’s trial started in the Bellinzona Court. Cosar is on trial with an indictment prepared by the military prosecutor for “Committing war crimes on another country’s territory without the knowledge of the army as a member of the Swiss army”. The trial is expected to last a week and will decide whether it was a crime for Cosar, who worked as a trainer in the Swiss army before travelling to Rojava, to fight against ISIS.

Cosar said he was part of the Syriac Military Council (MFS), and in previous statements he had said he offered help during his stay in Rojava to protect his people and other peoples from ISIS and from genocide, which he considered a humanitarian duty. Cosar had stated that he is proud to have fought against an inhumane force like ISIS.
