The Syrian government and Turkish-backed groups presented as "the opposition" have been invited to the talks in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan announced that the next round of Astana talks will take place on February 15-16. The Syrian government, "Syrian armed opposition" and the UN Envoy to Syria have been invited to the talks organized by Russia, Iran and Turkey.
According to the ministry, a committee from Jordan will also participate in the talks. A US delegation will join the talks as an observer. The new round of talks includes precautions for abiding by the ceasefire and restoring stability in certain regions.
The first round of talks in Kazakhstan began last month with the participation of a Syrian government delegation and the groups backed by Turkey. The majority of these groups had formed alliances with ISIS and al Nusra, and committed many war crimes.
Astana talks were launched after the defeat of armed forces in Aleppo. The armed groups presented as "the opposition" are weaker and more scattered than ever.
In principal, Astana talks are held to lay the grounds for Geneva talks. The next round of Geneva talks organized by the UN is scheduled for February 20.
