Teenager killed by security forces in Þemdinli

A simultaneous raid action was carried out by Kurdish guerrilla last night at around 22.00 in Þemdinli district of Hakkari, targeting the district Police Department and Gendarmerie Station.

While a severe clash was lived after the attack, as reported by Þemdinli Mayor Sedat Töre, three civilians lost their lives, included a 14-year old boy. At least one sergeant and one police officer died and seven wounded during the clashes which lasted more than an hour.

Three civilians, 14-year-old boy Osman Erbaþ, Necdet Güreli and Tayyar Güreli, who were attending a wedding ceremony in front of Þemdinli Municipality, are reported to have lost their lives as a result of the fire opened by soldiers and police officers. Among the dead are also reported one sergeant and one soldier.

Mayor Töre and relatives of Osman Erbaþ reportedly tried to take the boy to the hospital but the ambulance was prevented by soldiers to go to the event’s scene. While Erbaþ died of blood lose, the ambulance taking Erbaþ’s body afterwards was again prevented by soldiers and held in front of the municipality building for more than an hour.

The attack fire which was opened from the commanding Goman mountain was responded by counter tank and artillery bombardment, reported. The clash was followed by an intense aerial traffic in the district where communication tools went dead for some time. 


While the police and soldiers ‘terrorized’ in the district by opening casual fires with automatic guns and rocket launchers and targeting many houses and workplaces, police and soldiers on the other hand raided lots of houses in particularly Bahçelievler Neighborhood.


The district turned into an almost battlefield during the conflict and people were unable to move from where they were. While causalities were taken to Semdinli State Hospital after the conflict, the seriously wounded were referred to Yüksekovan and Van State Hospitals.

Following the conflict, Scorsky type helicopters, tanks and artillery units bombarded the Goman Mountain for long hours.
