At least 267 people have been taken into custody within the scope of the AKP government’s police campaign against Kurds and opponents in the last ten days. Some 101 of them were remanded in custody, included politicians, students, women, children and villagers.
The political and military operations have remarkably increased in the last ten days with the arrest of 46 Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) members, as well as politicians, university students demanding free education, women protesting against abortion ban and “stone throwing children”.
85 members of BDP have been taken into custody and among them 46 were arrested since the beginning of June. The detainees included mayors, district and provincial chairs, council members, party members and executives, local government commission members and Asrýn Law Office lawyer Cüneyt Caniþ.
Arrests under the leadership of the AKP government have also targeted Kurdish and democrat university students, with 102 detentions and 47 arrests.
On the other hand, many people were subject to detentions and arrests because of the most recent political operations and clashes in operation areas. People in the clashes area have suffered great material damage from the operations.
Woman demonstrators have also been subject to arrests in the last ten days in connection with the protest actions against the ban of abortion which has been a subject of intense discussions and debates since the statements of Prime Minister Erdoðan who compared abortion with Uludere massacre. 44 women were taken into custody during the demonstrations against the government and ministers.
