The first conference on the reconstruction of Kobanê in the aftermath of the heroic victory against ISIS will be organised in the main Kurdish city Amed.
In a statement on behalf of the Kobanê Canton Administration, Enver Muslim said that the conference under the slogan “the rebuilding of Kobanê is to turn attention to the common values of humanity” and will take place at Diyarbakır Municipality Conference Hall on 2-3 May.
The conference will address the political and societal outcomes of the war in Kobanê and discuss solutions for the future of the reconstruction of the city.
Muslim stated that the Canton administration and the people of Kobanê shared the common aim of constructing a democratic and ecological system retaining and protecting all human values. “Our aim is to engage all groups of people, fractions and diversities into the construction of a new society, which relies solely on the capacities and dynamics of our people in the spirit of the ongoing struggle”, he said.
With an expected participation of more than 300 delegates, Muslim called to this conference all parties, societal groups and friends to engage just like during the resistance of Kobanê. He recalled that Kobanê has received both national and international attention and recognition for its resistance, which continues and is expected to continue during the times of rebuilding.
The conference which is the first of its kind to call for collaborative discussions will also provide the stepping stones for other upcoming national and international conferences on this mater.
During the conference in Amed, Kobanê canton administrators will also share the works they have performed in the field around political, social, economic and cultural topics in the city.
“There is a need for coming together and formulate solutions for a long list of matters including reconstructing the infrastructure of the city, city planning, water supply, agriculture, cattle breeding, energy, health care, education, humanitarian corridor, security and removal of landmines”, the statement underlined.
The city of Kobanê has resisted for 136 days against ISIS gangs and is still going on. The war has brought about a massive level of destruction; people have lost their lives, tens of thousands of people have lost their homes while the city and villages were demolished.
Remarking that it is a common duty for all humanity to overcome this damage, Muslim said “Reconstruction of a new society is much more difficult than making war and destruction. Fully aware of this, we are also certain of the fact that the very same humanity which resisted against the brutality of ISIS will step up to rebuilding Kobanê and its values.”
