The revenge of the authorities after the escape

ANF spoke to lawyer Raziye Öztürk who visited the 12 PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) prisoners who were transferred from Bingöl M Type prison to Bolu F Type prison on 29 September following the jailbreak in Bingöl.

Lawyer Öztürk remarked that prison administrations have recently subjected PKK prisoners to a systematical revenge policy by using the Bingöl jailbreak as an excuse.

The lawyer who paid a visit to 12 inmates on 11 November said they were facing challenging conditions in the prison and being followed by security cameras even while spending time in the prison garden.

According to the lawyer, the administration of Bingöl prison denied the twelve prisoners permission to take their belongings with them during the transfer, and vowed to send their things by cargo on conditions that the cargo fee is paid by prisoners themselves. In response to the arbitrary imposition, prisoners sent letters to the prison administration demanding the transfer of their belongings through the Human Rights Association (IHD), but received no answer so far.

Öztürk noted that the administration of Bingöl prison also launched an investigation against two of the inmates, Fırat Yaşar and Veli Kaynak, in relation to the jailbreak, and Yaşar was accused of “damaging public property” despite the statements of prison prosecutor confirming that he had left the ward in question, where prisoners dug a tunnel from, one year ago.

The inmates who are condemned to live under isolation in F type prisons are also being watched with security cameras placed in the prison garden. They have filed numerous applications to the Ministry of Justice for the removal of security cameras but have received no answer to their demand so far.
