Thousands bid farewell to Sherzan Muslim

Shervan Mislim Mohamed, the son of PYD (Democratic Union Party) co-chair Salih Mislim Mohamed, was laid to rest following a ceremony joined by thousands in the city of Kobane in West Kurdistan.

Shervan had died following clashes between YPG (People's Defense Units) and militants from al-Qaeda linked ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Levant) in Tal Abyad, some 15 km from the city of Kobani on Wednesday.

Shervan was buried in the Martyrs Graveyard following a military ceremony by YPG fighters. His coffin was covered with a YPG flag.

Speaking at the cemetery, Shervan's mother Ayşe Efendi saluted all "freedom martyrs of Kurdistan" and said that; "It has been proved who is fighting for freedom and honor today. To those waging a war against us, I am saying that we are resisting you with our martyrs and blood. From now on I will be holding my head high and owning our free lands".

Speaking after on behalf of the PYD, Nuri Mahmud said that “Shervan is the martyr of the Kurdish people”.

His speech was followed by that of Meysa Ebdo on behalf of the YPJ (Women's Defense Units), Mahmud Beşir on behalf of TEV-DEM, Roza Tolhildan on behalf of Yekitiya Star Coordination and Mahmud Kilo on behalf of the Kurdish Democratic Party of Syria.
