The joint call of the HDP, DBP and DTK to turn the Feast of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha) into a Feast of Resistance has been welcomed in many cities in Kurdistan.
Thousands of people departed from many cities for Suruç to join the resistance and the vigil at the border that has been going on since the beginning of the intense attacks of ISIS on 15 September.
Hundreds of people coming from Adana and Mersin were stopped by the police at the entrance of Suruç and were not allowed to go into the town. However, leaving their cars, people started to march towards Suruç, refusing to be stopped.
AMED
Thousands of people, including the trade union members and education workers, departed this morning from Amed and its districts for Suruç. However, all the vehicles going towards Urfa were stopped by the police when they were about to leave the city. Claiming that there is an order by the Urfa Governate, the police said they would not allow the passage of the vehicles going in the direction of Urfa.
While the people protested the police by getting out of their vehicles, the executives of the Party of Democratic Regions told the police that they would anyhow reach Suruç, even on foot if necessary. The negotiations between the police and the party executives are reported to be continuing.
MALATYA
While the vigil action at the tent set up on the initiative of Malatya Labour and Democracy Platform in solidarity with the Kobanê resistance continues in the city centre, dozens of people holding the vigil departed last night for Suruç in order to join the vigil at the border following a rally organised by people to accompany their departure.
People from Malatya were also stopped by the police at the outskirts of the city and were allowed to continue only after a general identity check.
ADANA/MERSIN
Dozens of buses and cars departed from the Cukurova region, including the districts of Adana and Mersin as well as the cities. The people from Adana and Mersin were stopped by the police in Birecik district on the grounds of an order of the provincial governor prohibiting entrance to the town.
Following discussions between the people and the police many of the people left their cars and started to march to Suruç, which is some 15 km away from the point where people were stopped.
In the meantime, another convoy coming from Siirt was also stopped at the entrance of the town by the police again on the grounds of an order of the provincial governor prohibiting entry to the town. Faced with this pretext of the police, people asked to see the written order. It emerged, however, that the order was for searching the vehicles before their entry to the town not prohibiting entry. People then broke the barriers and continued their way to the border.
VAN
Hundreds of people from Van also departed for Suruc this morning in 3 buses, 5 minibuses as well as in dozens of private cars.
BITLIS
Hundreds of people departed from Bitlis for Suruç following a rally and a press conference this morning in front of the building of DBP.
