Thousands marched in Van for Roboski

Thousands of people staged a march in the province of Van to mark the second anniversary of the Roboski massacre which claimed the life of 34 Kurdish civilians, mostly children, at the night of 28 December 2011.

Among the demonstrators were also BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Van MP Özdal Üçer, Mayor Bekir Kaya and BDP Van executives.

People marched from BDP Van office to the Feqiye Teyran park, chanting slogans 'Biji Serok Apo' and 'Murderer state will be brought to account', and carrying banners which read 'We will not forget the Roboski massacre'.

Speaking after the march to the park, BDP MP Üçer said Turkish government and Prime Minister were responsible for the massacre that caused suffering not only for Şırnak but also for the whole Turkey and the world.

"Kurds have been massacred in this way for dozens of years now. The perpetrators of the Roboski massacre haven't been exposed yet but neither Roboski nor other massacres will be able to make us desist from our struggle for freedom which, as leader Öcalan also says, is not going to end until we attain freedom", Üçer underlined.

The demo ended following a sit-in after Üçer's speech.
