Three activists sentenced for protesting killing of kolbers

An Iranian court sentenced three activists from Mahabad to prison sentences for their participation in demonstrations to protest the killing of kolbers (porter).

According to Kurdistan Human Rights Network three activists; Kobra Khalandi, Mostafa Abu Bakri and Pouya Adelkhani were charged with launching a telegram channel calling for a protest rally. The activists were sentenced to 13 and a half months of imprisonment in total.

“According to the new law, Kobra Khalandi was sentenced to two and a half months of imprisonment, Mustafa Abu Bakri was sentenced to nine months of imprisonment and Pouya Adelkhani was sentenced to two months of imprisonment,” a source told KHRN.  

Khalandi, Bakri and Adelkhani were arrested by the police and intelligence forces of Mahabad on Sept 10, 2017. They were released on bail after 7 days.

On September 4, the murder of two kolbers in one of the Baneh borderlands led to massive protests in Baneh. The protests spread to Sanandaj, Mahabad and Kermanshah during the following days.
