Three hundred intellectuals support Block candidates

Support for independent candidates from the Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block is increasing. The block has presented its election manifesto and many voices have joined the chorus of those who have already stated their support for the block.

In Istanbul on Wednesday three-hundred-thirty intellectuals, academics, writers, singers, producers, actress, business people, journalists signed a statement to support the candidates contesting the 12 June general elections for the Block.

The statement of support was presented to the press at Taksim Hill Hotel. “We support the block for a democratic and equal constitution” said the new supporters quoting the title of the document.

Among the people supporting the Block, are Adalet Aðaoðlu, Nuray Mert, Hýrant Dink's son Arat Dink, Mete Çubukçu, Þebnem Koru Fincancý, Sevim Belli, Zeynep Gambetti, Nazým Alpman, Ahmet Ýnsel, Gençay Gürsoy, Celal Baþlangýç, Deniz Türkali, Derya Alabora, Erol Katýrcýoðlu, Erturul Mavioðlu, Gültan Kaya, Yeþim Biber, Julide Kural, Fehmi Iþýk, Baskýn Oran, Roni Marguiles and Ferhat Kentel. Many independent candidates were at the meeting as well.

Many NGOs, workers confederations and trade unions also announced their support for the block’s candidates. Some of them have already launched the idea of a march toward the Capital City Ankara to contribute to peace effort and make their voice heard.
