Three new hydroelectric power plants on the Dicle

Despite reactions to the ongoing construction of hydroelectric power plants (HES) in Amed's Kulp and Silvan districts, the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning and the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) have taken action for building three new hydroelectric power plants on the Dicle River passing through the city of Amed.

The hydroelectric power plants are planned to be built among neighborhoods and villages located 3 to 30 kilometers to the city centre.

The building of the dams for the plants, projected by Eser Energy and Electricity Generation Incorporated Company, is planned to be finished within the next two years.

The Environmental Impact Assessment (ÇED) report has already been approved for the first HES dam, Dicle-l, to be built in the Sarılı neighborhood of Yenişehir district, in an area between İlbaş, Sivritepe and Tanışık villages. The cost of the project is planned to reach TL 57,945 million.

The second dam, to be called Dicle-ll, is planned to be built in an area on Amed-Silvan way. The construction area will be extending to the neighborhoods of Feritköşk and Dicle. The project for the dam, of 19,7 km length, is planned to cost TL 65,163 million.

The third dam, Dicle-lll, will be built in an area extending from the Bağıvar village to the Şükürlü, Ambar and Sarıtoprak villages in Sur district, planned to cost TL 83.9 million and reach 7.55 km in length.

The building of the new three dams will block the Dicle River from the village of İlbaş to the village of Ambar.

The construction of two separate hydroelectric power plants is still going on in Amed's Kulp and Silvan districts, while there are already three dams on Dicle River; Kralkızı, Batman and Dicle.

The construction of the Ilısu dam which will submerge the ancient Hasankeyf town of Batman is also going on.
