Four days after Erdoğan said “There is no reason for bombs not exploding in Brussels or any other European city,” there were two explosions in Zaventem International Airport in Belgium’s capital Brussels this morning. There are multiple deaths and injuries in the explosions.
The source of the two explosions this morning in Zaventem International Airport in Brussels, considered to be the capital of the European Union, is yet to be determined.
While reports say there are multiple deaths and injuries in the explosions, no official statement has been released on the incident yet. Belgian media are reporting up to 10 people dead and 30 people injured. There has been another explosion at Brussel’s Maelbeek metro station and passengers are being evacuated through tunnels. The scene of the 3rd explosion is 400 meters to the tent set up by Kurdish demonstrators.
The airport has been evacuated and all flights are cancelled in the wake of the blasts. The rail systems to the airport are also at a halt. Belgium’s security alarm level has been raised to 4, the highest in the country.
Zavantem International Airport, the largest in Belgium, is the 14th largest in Europe.
ERDOĞAN’S THREAT
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, threatening Belgium in a statement he made 4 days ago, said that “There is no reason for bombs that exploded in Ankara won’t explode in Brussels, where terror supporters are given the opportunity to put on a show in the middle of the city, or in any other European city. Despite this obvious fact, European countries’ careless actions are like dancing in a mine field. You never know when you will step on a mine, but it is clear that this is an inevitable result.”
Turkish President targeted Belgium for the Kurdish tents in Brussels and AKP newspapers had used the headline, “Terrorist Belgium”.
