Trustee appointed to Suruç, Savur, Derik, Mazıdağı municipalities

A total of 24 municipalities held by the HDP have been seized by the Turkish regime since August, including 3 metropolitan municipalities.

The Turkish regime targeted the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the Mardin and Urfa provinces on Friday. Co-mayor of Savur district Gülistan Öncü, co-mayor of Mazıdağı district Nalan Özaydın, co-mayor of Derik district Mülkiye Esmez and co-mayor of Urfa’s Suruç district Hatice Çevik were taken into custody following house raids Friday morning.

Trustees have been appointed by the Turkish government to replace the detained co-mayors.

A total of 24 municipalities held by the HDP have been seized by the Turkish regime since August, including 3 metropolitan municipalities; Diyarbakır, Mardin, Van, Hakkari, Yüksekova, Nusaybin, Kulp, Kayapınar, Bismil, Kocaköy, Erciş, Karayazı, Cizre, Saray, Kızıltepe, Yenişehir, Hazro, İdil, Akpazar, İpekyolu, Suruç, Savur, Derik and Mazıdağı.
