Tuðluk: How can you ask for brotherhood when you repress your people?

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) made a press conference on Friday after having visited Cizre where police had raided the BDP main building and taken 69 people into custody during Newroz celebrations.

DTK co-chair Aysel Tuðluk said: “The government should not speak of law, peace and brotherhood after the violence we experienced during Newroz celebrations. We do not want this kind of law, - she added - this kind of living together. We refuse such a mentality.”

Tuðluk also emphasized that the Kurdish people have the legitimate right to self-defense.

"The police broke into our party’s building with panzers, broke the doors and destroyed our offices. The picture clearly shows how the government is full of hatred against us and that it was a planned attack to disable and harass the Kurdish people,” said Tuðluk.

Tuðluk added that the prime minister’s attitude is that of a dictator and asked, “How can it be possible to establish brotherhood and to live together with such a policy of oppression?”

She also emphasized the determination of the Kurdish people to struggle for their freedom and added Kurds will not be intimidated by oppression. “Our people have already shown that they do not want to live under such a government and that they refuse the government’s policies. We demand our language, our identity and our values. Our struggle cannot be eliminated. We will not take any step back. Either the government respects the Kurdish people and its values, or we will use our legitimate right to self-defense.”

‘The only terrorism in Kurdistan is the state terrorism’

BDP Van MP Özdal Üçer also spoke at the press conference. Üçer noted that the only terrorism in Kurdistan has always been the state terrorism. “The government would like us to reject our politicians, our mayors, our leader. But we will always stand behind all of our political representatives. We will claim our guerillas who carry out an honorable struggle, too,” said Üçer.
