The trial of DTK (Democratic Society Congress) co-chair and Van independent deputy Aysel Tuğluk has resumed at Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court today. The hearing was attended by Tuğluk's lawyers Fethi Gümüş and Sedat Yurttaş.
DTK co-chair was accused of “spreading propaganda for a terror organization” and “committing crime on behalf of an organization despite not being a member of it” in 15 separate speeches she held between 2005 and 2010.
Speaking during the hearing, lawyers Gümüş and Yurttaş demanded decision of non-prosecution and the practice of new legal arrangements in favour of their client, remarking that Tuğluk's speeches served peace and democracy.
Penal department no. 6 of the supreme court has ruled decision of non-prosecution and reversed the 14 years and 7 months prison sentence Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court asked for deputy Aysel Tuğluk. The Supreme Court has reversed the prison sentence in line with the recently introduced legal arrangements.
