Turkey arrests HDK spokesperson and ESP’s deputy co-chair

A Turkish court arrested Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) spokesperson Onur Hamzaoglu and Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) deputy co-chair Fadime Celebi.

Celebi and Hamzaoglu were detained by Turkish police before the Congress of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) last week. The pair along with five other politicians appeared in court on Saturday morning.

The Ankara Criminal Court arrested Celebi and Hamzaoglu for terrorism charges. Other five politicians were released.

In another development, eight Kurdish politicians were detained in Ankara by Turkish police on Saturday.

HDP officials said Fatma Kurtulan a member of HDP’s party council were among the detained.
